I love music. Period. I love reggae and funk most of all since they are what I have been riding on since I was 13 and my brother saw Bob Marley for the first time and I saw George Clinton land the Mothership Connection in Oakland. I have traveled the world looking for good music and have found it everywhere.
I have been following DJ Sep and going to her fantastic Sunday nights Dub Mission party at the Elbo Room for almost 10 years. She has an amazing talent of finding some of the best new reggae on the planet. She introduced me to Fat Freddy’s Drop which you simply can’t beat on the world stage today.
Now that Unaverz is around creating a musical scene of her own, I have turned to another DJ Sep introduction for my inspiration of where I would like to go. Mungo’s Hi Fi is out of Glasgow, Scotland and they are stellar. No one delivers fatter beats or a better energy. They just dropped a new video called Alphabet and I realized I am basing much of what I am trying to build off their lead. I adore how talent (mostly) rises in their organization (women have a tough time of it with them, but that’s where Unaverz will def be better ;). It doesn’t matter where you come from… it matters what you bring.
I hope when Unaverz grows up we can throw events like these guys.
PS: Soom T at Elbo was one of the best shows ever. She blew my mind.

Rodigan is, truly, a living legend. If you ever get a chance to see him, don’t miss it. No one I have ever met has a deeper understanding of reggae. No one. And he’s a hell of a lot of fun to listen to. Funny guy. Great vibe.
