Improvements for 2015 – Erich

Madeline and I had a great time with UNAVERZ and, (burn night issues aside), we thought we might suggest a couple of things that could make the truck safer and more fun.

MOOP

1.  A lip on the edge of the deck to catch the cans, bottles, tools, etc that fall to the floor BEFORE they fall to the Playa

2.  A “leave no trace”, or “moop it up” sign, to remind people to leave the car with what they brought.

3.  A back wall or lip on the upstairs shelf so that when someone puts things on the shelf, they don’t push other stuff out the backside and down the stairs

Driver Interaction

1. Remove rear window or install sliding window so people on the truck can talk to driver?

2. Intercom?  Radio?  Toggle switch to lights? from back steps to driver. (to slow or stop for off/on loading, and a “clear to go” signal)

3. A light or lights to indicate; “The truck is stopped for a while”, or  “hold on, the truck is about to start to move”, or “We will leave here soon”

4. GPS with the BATHROOM locations clearly marked.

5. Back up camera looking down on back steps (to slow or stop for people getting on or off, plus aid backing into the camp)

6. Clearance cameras looking forward from the upper rear sides of the car.  (bikes, other art cars etc)

7. Driving lights mounted under the front bumper to eliminate glare against the front fabric.  (use instead of regular headlights)

General

1. Non Skid layer of paint (spread sand on deck wen paint is wet.)

2. Gen and truck exhaust fumes further outside of the truck (fumes could get pretty bad in the cab and on lower deck)

3. Aux fuel tank for Gen so that one need not refuel several times a night.

4. Railing on right side of Rear Stairs.

5. Lights on the rear stairs.

6. Hooks or loops to hang/store stuff other than just dumping everything in the chill dome.

7. 12v socket near DJ table for charging iPad, iPods etc.

8.  A removable jib to get stuff up/down from the top of the truck.  Like http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_74569_74569

BTW,

Smash convinced us that the 2kw gen was plenty, (evidence suggests he is right, and fuel use went down to about 2g/night from 15g/night). Teph discovered that turning ECO mode OFF made the 2k Gen run more smoothly.

The clutch should be inspected before next year. There are signs its starting to chatter.

In general we thought UNAVERZ was one of the most inclusive and welcoming designs on the playa, people loved the car and went out of their way to thank us profusely.
